Impressions - We thought we knew what we wanted but having chatted to Andy he came up with much better ideas that optimised the space we had available. Would highly recommend letting him come up with first plan as he certainly knows what he is doing. Our final design was perfect and something we wouldn’t have thought of ourselves.
Quality - Outstanding quality and amazing value for money. We had an allegedly hand crafted kitchen previously but it wasn’t a patch on Andy’s work.
Value - Superb. Can’t say anymore than that - other than we were so impressed we have now booked Andy to build built in bedroom suite as well.
Would you recommend APS? - Without hesitation.
Comments - All round faultless service, highly knowledgeable and amazing end product. The kitchen was better than we could have imagined and didn’t break the bank either which is a bonus. Only issue is that, not surprisingly given his workmanship, Andy is very busy so be prepared to wait - it’s worth it. We now waiting for him to do a bedroom suite for us. Would have no hesitation in recommending Andy.
A rare find
Absolutely top quality. Andy is a good communicator. Many thanks for everything Andy and Tom. We are absolutely thrilled with our kitchen, the workmanship is fantastic and it was great that we could have everything designed to our measurements and requirements. I would highly recommend APS Woodwork.
We’ve been using Andy at APS Woodwork for over 10 years after a friend recommended him. We, in turn, have recommended him to several of our friends over the years – all of whom have been extremely pleased with our discovery! We have commissioned him for work on both domestic and commercial properties. For us, Andy has designed and made kitchens, built-in cupboards, bespoke fire surrounds and also an entire shop fit of optical cabinets and stands. He works to a realistic timetable and has always finished our jobs on time. He is approachable and still always manages to maintain a smiling face even when we’ve given him huge challenges! We just hope he doesn’t get too busy to do future projects for us!
Design: Andy provides practical advice and design suggestions that really help to cement your own ideas from his wealth of experience.
Quality: The quality of the kitchen Andy has made is superb and we have been impressed by the attention to detail including the drawers, runners and the design detail that he has matched perfectly to our requirements.
Value: Yes the service and furniture is value for money.
Would you recommend APS? We would happily recommend APS Woodwork for any project.
Comments: Thank you Andy and Tom for a really lovely kitchen. We are loving it!
This was a quality bespoke kitchen, beautiful and absolutely functional, with delightful detail and the best craftmanship. It is being very much admired, and I will recommend this firm to all who want a product of this quality. I wouls absolutly recommend them.
We have recently used Andy and Tom to design, make and fit a new kitchen and utility room. They were recommended to us by a friend and we by extension now highly recommend them too! This is the first time we have undertaken anything on this scale and Andy was so helpful to guide us throughout the project. At design stage Andy interpreted my ideas and was extremely helpful to offer unbiased advice based on his extensive knowledge and experience, all of which ultimately gave us a superior design. Throughout the planning stage and even at the point of production he was flexible and happy to make any changes and we couldn't be happier with the result. I found the combination of site visits and conversations over the phone worked really well and everything worked perfectly to our schedule.
We had a number of quotes (all of which were more expensive but not as high quality). There is no doubt that Andy and Tom provide a beautiful hand made, bespoke product but at an affordable price. As a team Andy and Tom were a pleasure to work with and they were perfectionists to the end, working so hard to get it absolutely right not just for us but because they take so much pride in their work.
We love the new kitchen and are so proud to show it off, it's the best part of the house and we will enjoy it for many years to come!
Thanks so much Andy and Tom!
Andrew is very approachable and willing to listen to what we wanted and take time to discuss ideas and practicality, came up with some great designs and pointed out issues we hadn't considered.
Andrew and Tom followed up to ensure we were totally happy with the workmanship. We completely love our new dressing room and study. The quality is top notch and worth every penny.
We got exactly what we wanted, hand built to an agreed plan, and no "make-do" options as offered by many other companies who came out to quote for the job. We couldn't be happier. The team of Andrew and Tom were faultless in their attitude, manners and cleaned up at the end of each working day. We thoroughly recommend them.
Excellent quality of work.
Have known the high quality of the craftsmanship of the Smith family since 1975.
We are so delighted that a friend recommended Andy and Tom, they have transformed our kitchen and were full of design ideas at all stages. They are lovely people to deal with.
We couldn't be happier.
The workmanship is exceptional and very good value for money.
My kitchen is absolutely everything I could have hoped for. It is my first new kitchen ever, and I couldn't be more pleased that APSWoodwork was recommended to me. The quality of the kitchen is exceptional and so much attention to detail was given, that I simply can't fault it. Andy was extremely helpful every step of the way, and made great suggestions when I was unsure as to how the kitchen should be planned.
I couldn't recommend APSwoodwork more highly.
I just wanted to drop you a line and say how very impressed we both were with your efficiency and attention to detail throughout the process of you designing, building and installing our fabulous new kitchen. We both run our own property businesses, me sales and Jane lettings, and between us have 40 years experience of those who "promise the earth", and fail to deliver. Your easy going manner was very refreshing and nothing seemed too much trouble. Timing is of course a critical factor when you are without a kitchen, and I have to say yours was impeccable. Everything happened as planned, in fact no earlier, and you finished early, which is extremely rare. We are extremely pleased with the finished product, which you delivered to ahead of schedule to an extremely high standard, at a fraction of comparable High Street prices.
We have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending you to others and only fear that in addition to your very talented son, you might need extra help to cope with the increase in work!
We were in need of wardrobe and shelving in our small bedroom. Space and design options open to us seemed limited. Andy made optimum use of the space available . We were very happy with the design he came up with. The finished wardrobes and shelving unit are of excellent quality and were fitted very efficiently within a day.
We are delighted with the end result.
Fabulous help with planning - I had a clear idea of what I wanted but a few awkward areas that had stumped me - Andys advice ensured that the space available was maximised.
Andy was very accomodating with timing when my building work didn't go to plan and he was very helpful when finalising the design, offering practical advice.
The workmanship is fabulous and extremely good value for money - you can tell that Andy and Tom have a passion for what they do - they are both perfectionists.
I would recommend Andy without hesitation for both quality and price.
Thanks you so much for the fabulous kitchen that you have made for us. It is everything that we had hoped for and more. We are thrilled with the quality and design. I am particularly pleased with my glass and cup cupboard with the envelope door which really maximisies the space in a difficult corner. This type of bespoke cupboard would not have been possible without your help. The media cabinet that you made to compliment the kitchen is again everything that we had hoped for. I wanted a standalone piece of furniture that brought the kitchen and dining area together. Your advice was extremely helpful to ensure that it looked more like furnitiure than a kitchen cabinet. Again your advice with the envelope doors ensured we have a cabinet that is functional which pleases my husband yet the electronics can be hidden away when not in use, which pleases me.
Thank you it is my favourite bit of the whole extension.
Very helpful indeed; such good suggestions. The design, creative yet practical. The value, very good value for money, excellent quality, solid fittings, nothing shoddy.
Would I be happy to recommend APS Woodwork?
Definitely, already have done so!
"It's always great to deal with someone who understands your vision of what is wanted and then completes the job with a passion for quality and obvious love for what he is doing.
Dealing with Andy Smith is just that"
good ideas...quick response with good clear plans...worth paying for bespoke... Andy came to design a computer desk to fit under our new stairs up to the loft conversion - I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted, but Andy advised what would and wouldn't work, plus gave advice about a pull out printer shelf, filing drawer etc. He was quick to send detailed plans, and it was actually finished and fitted sooner than we had expected. It looks fantastic, fits perfectly, and is functional.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Andy - friendly, professional, and great at what he does!
I had spent many hours with bespoke kitchen designers, but none seemed to have the same passion or desire to come up with imaginative ideas to solve problem areas. From the outset Andy was professional and knowledgable and a pleasure to work with. The attention to detail and the craftsmanship that goes into the furniture is excellent. Having been using the kitchen for a few months I can honestly say that there isn't a single thing I would change.
I absolutely love my new kitchen and cannot thank Andy enough.
We are absolutely delighted with our new kitchen which has been so admired by everyone; the quality of the craftsmanship & the materials used are excellent We were impressed with Andy's attention to detail during the design stages and the finished product, he wanted everything to be absolutely perfect for us. As its all bespoke, we could maximise the space and create the exact kitchen we wanted without any compromises for example, Andy made a beautiful solid oak circular breakfast bar and he made suggestions, such as a double larder with shelving, drawers and wicker baskets which has worked out so well.
We would highly recommend Andy to our friends and family; he has given us our perfect kitchen.
"Workmanship is of the highest quality"
-Excellent and very helpful and informative.
-Design plans exactly what we discussed and everything on time.
-We are so happy with our new kitchen we want Andy to come back and make us wardrobes in our bedroom.
We found Andy to be perfect for us. We received so much help and advice during the planning of our kitchen from them. We were thrilled with the end result and it turned out exactly how we wanted. The care to detail was second to none and Andy was always there throughout the work to answer any queries. APS Woodwork is a company that provides a rare exemplary service today! We have recommended them to many friends who also have been thrilled with the standard of work .
Work that will last a lifetime .....
We cannot praise Andy and his son, Tom, enough for our fantastic kitchen.Andy sat down with us and talked through our ideas and requirements, offering us appropriate suggestions and advice. Andy was on hand throughout the process and I felt confident with his calm approach and expertise. We were pleasantly surprised at the superb value for money and extremely delighted with the highest of quality workmanship. We have no hesitation in recommending Apswoodwork to others.
Andy's knowledge and experience make his service second to none.
"I rememeber coming home on the evening that you had finished fitting the kitchen, standing there and thinking, yes, we made the right choice".
From any vague ideas that we might have given you, you went away and came up with a design that more than met our requirements, and even when faced with a few obstacles you still managed to tweak the design to suit our needs.
Right throughout the whole planning & design process, your experience & advice had been invaluable. However, it wasn't until you came to fit the kitchen that I really appreciated what you and your son, Tom, had managed to achieve, the plan just didn't do it justice. I rememeber coming home on the evening that you had finished fitting the kitchen, standing there and thinking, yes, we made the right choice. Claire and I are delighted with the kitchen, not just with the materials and the craftsmanship, but with the way it is laid out.
It all just works so well."
While progress on the house has been slow since Christmas, we have started to look in greater detail at some of the finishing touches for the house. It is now approaching the end of March and we should be moving in some time between May and July; this does not give us very long, and we need to get things organised. Our deal with Chris Foggett for the build of the house is that we will supply most of the material used in the house. Bella and I sit down and draw up a list of things that we will need to buy. Top of the list comes the kitchen, both for the main house and for the annexe. We have to decide where we are going to source all of these, but the first thing that needs to be sorted out is the kitchen for the house. For the main house we have decided to go for a bespoke 'hand made' kitchen. The kitchen is the focal point of the house, and is a room where we will be spending much of our time; this needs to be right, and is something that we accept we probably need to spend quite a lot of money on. Bella has been dreaming of a 'semi fitted' solid wood kitchen with granite worktops for years, so here is her chance to get exactly that. We are blessed in Wiltshire that we have some of the highest profile kitchen makers in the UK very close to us. I won't name names, but they advertise in all of the glossy home magazines.
We visit them and wonder at the beautiful kitchens that they have to offer us. The show rooms are very flashy and the young sales people very confident and assertive -they know just the sort of kitchen that we would need! We give them details of what we are looking for and sit back waiting for the final designs to be sent to us.

The show rooms are very flashy and the young sales people very confident and assertive -they know just the sort of kitchen that we would need! We give them details of what we are looking for and sit back waiting for the final designs to be sent to us. A few days later they arrive by post. The first thing that is obvious is that these specialist kitchen makers have stuffed the kitchen full of units and cupboards. We had explained to them that we have built a large pantry / larder which will be shelved and will keep most of our non-perishable food, other household products and all of the pots and pans, all hidden away out of view.
We are looking for a kitchen with only a few wall cupboards and maybe a dresser unit against one wall. None of the specialist kitchen designers have interpreted our brief properly. Not only that, , the cost is huge!
They are looking for between £45,000 and £55,000 to build our kitchen for us! And that's just for the units and worktops, it does not include fitting, the appliances, or VAT! NO WAY!!
Friends of ours, Jon and Liz Clancy, had recently built their own home in Hullavington, a nearby village, and they had used a local chap to design and build their kitchen. This was made out of solid oak and cost a fraction of what we were being quoted, and it looks fantastic.
They give us his name- Andrew Smith from Calne in Wiltshire, a town just a few miles away from us. The kitchen is very much Bella's project, and she and Andy quickly get down to the detail of the design and the choiceof materials. She explains to him that she wants a 'semi fitted look'. On one wall she wants a large dresser. Between the family room and the kitchen she wants the hob to be fitted, and she wants a large sink under the window with views to the garden. In the main kitchen she wants a small larder fridge, an integrated dishwasher and a double 'eye level' oven. At the 'back window' we want a built-in bench and a 'breakfast table'. In the utility room we want to have a tall built-in fridge, a tall freezer (which we already have and which needs to be hidden in a cupboard), a washing machine, a tumble drier (again to be hidden in cupboards), oh, and we want another sink. "No problem", Andy says. A few days later he calls us up. He has done the designs, would we like to see them? He calls around with samples of wood for the doors and examples of the different sort of door finishes we could go for. The basic design is drawn out by hand on a couple of pieces of paper. None of the fancy presentation that we got from the 'exclusive' kitchen makers’ showrooms, but Andy has managed to interpret our brief exactly the way we wanted.
